Ornith In 2005, The Flaming Lotus Girls present Angel of the Apocalypse, a giant, elegant sculptural environment that rises from the ground in the form of an abstracted bird.

The Angel beautifully conveys a cycle of change, growth and discovery, and the large-scale installation invites Burning Man participants to explore this process as well.

•Structure:
50' x 50' overall footprint.
Cut, shaped and welded metal head and wings; head: 6' dia. footprint, height 15'; wings: 8' - 20' height.
Body: 30' x 10' x 5' rigid driftwood sculpture.

•Fire:
Wings are lit with ambient gas and liquid flame for 4 - 5 hours nightly.
The head and beak serve as an all-night wood-burning fireplace and chimney.
At the end of the week, we burn the wooden body in an elaborate fire ritual. At its end, a finale of white fireworks shoot into the sky, signifying the ascent and rebirth of the Angel of the Apocalypse.

Interactivity:
Participants move around and between the flaming feathers, and climb on and into the driftwood body.
All are invited to operate propane flame effects in the inner wings, and the air blaster in the Angel's head.
The head fireplace and open 'courtyard' space between the wings and body welcome gathering and performance.
