FIRE
SAFETY
Our liaisons with the fire performance safety team are
Caroline Miller and Rosa Anna Defilippis. They are available to answer
any
questions or concerns. After testing, we will meet with the fire
performance
safety team before allowing participants to enter the Serpent
Mother installation.
All of our gas supplies have shutoff valves both at the
source and at the piece and are located 35’ from any open
flames or
participants. All propane systems use LPG regulators, LPG hoses and
crimped
hose fittings. All fuel is contained in our fuel depot, a secure
environment
for storing fuel, and will be monitored by the Flaming Lotus Girls
while fire
effects are being displayed.
A Flaming Lotus Girl fire safety crew is on hand during
performances. 10 CO2 and 2 H2O
fire extinguishers are
placed around the Serpent Mother.
All
Flaming Lotus Girls staffing the installation carry wet blankets and
have easy
access to burn kits. Fuel is stored at camp and delivered to the site
at night
in preparation for the performance. We drive empty liquid fuel
(methanol) to
the DPW fuel depot after performances.
Flaming Lotus Girls take fire safety training tutorials in
July and August along with refresher safety courses on the playa. Our
fire
safety record is excellent with no safety incidents in seven years.
Fuel
Plan
We store all fuel and supplies in one location 35’ from the
sculpture in a fuel
depot.
Originating in the depot, fuel and electric lines are
trenched and buried to the main dispersal point located at the mid
point of the
serpent. Shut-off valves are located within the sculpture and at the
fuel
source.
